LabRat – Strange Nights EP out June 11th!

We at Crunchy Creationz were given the opportunity to hear and review LabRat’s Strange Nights EP before the highly anticipated drop date (June 11th, 2013).  But, before we share our thoughts with you, lets give you a little background information on LabRat himself:

“24-year-old, Santa Cruz-based dubstep artist Travis Egner Williams produces melodically infused dance floor bangers under the persona LabRat. He exploded onto the EDM scene in 2010 with his bootleg of The XX track Crystalized which was featured on many top YouTube channels around the world. Word spread quickly about LabRat’s unique drops and synths. In 2011 he was picked up by GruntWorthy Music where he released his debut EP “Test Subject”, receiving much critical praise. Working off the release hype LabRat had a great 2012 rocking the Emission Festival and other underground festivals in and around the San Francisco Bay Area featuring his face slaying bass. Online, LabRat’s popularity has gone viral. Hundreds of new fans join the base each month. He is regularly featured on top blogs such as The Untz, Earmilk.com Dubstep.net and TheDubstepChannel.”  (Facebook fan page)

Now to our review of the Strange Nights EP!  One of the biggest things we notice about artists these days is that they get stuck on a certain sound, always making songs of the same style and sound with very little versatility within the track itself.  This EP however has got a nice variety of styles not only within the EP but also within each individual track.  LabRat’s – Strange Nights EP has a little something for everyone to get down to.  There’s a track for those of you who love the more laid back feel, with a nice, recognizable melody.  There’s a track for those of you who prefer more of an intense, ready to rage type feel (Crunchy Creationz).  There’s a track that you could totally hear playing on the court of a street basketball game, and also a track that makes you wonder why they haven’t been playing it in the clubs yet.  LabRat went ahead and provided you with an assortment of styles for which ever mood/style you’re feeling at the time, while maintaining that LabRat BASS vibe your accustomed too.  The production quality of each track is phenomenal, and the EP as a whole surpasses the hype by a long shot.  MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT THE EP!  Crunchy Creationz is grateful to be given this opportunity and we hope everyone out there enjoys the EP as much as we did!

Iowa City experiences EOTO & Crizzly!

The timing is exact and the creativity unparallel, there are no acts akin to EOTO. The duo of longtime String Cheese rockers Michael Travis and Jason Hann consistently blend improvisational sounds with powerful ease. I’m not referring to the 100,000 watt bass amps either; they entrance audiences 150+ times a year while circumnavigating the festival world each summer without ever losing an edge. Equipped with masterful knowledge in music theory and polyrhythmic designs, these artists are a prototype for the future of jamtronica.

An unexpected confluence in musical tastes is a result of their individual influences. Their soundscape mixes elements of dub, trance, EDM, reggae, funk, classic and synth rock to form a truly sophisticated track. However separate the backgrounds; chemistry between them is undeniable as their entire resonance reflects it. From seamless breaks to interlocking rhythms, EOTO attains a level of jam unseen in most acts. Moreover, they have an uncanny ability to control the atmosphere of the room with a vibe that is sure to get crowds of any genre grooving.

Albeit somewhat overlooked by the euphoric crowds sure to be at every EOTO show is the incredible amount of preparation by light and sound technicians required to achieve such jubilation. Superimposing and animating Crizzly’s bear logo in a matter of hours is only a taste of what light show master Zebbler is capable of achieving. This innovator is developing phenomenal displays which continue to surprise all specters, there’s no telling what he may do next. Not to be forgotten is prodigy Crizzly who has quite an impressive resume at 21, earning bids with huge acts as well as selling out his own gigs across the country. In addition to these feats, he is playing at prestigious events like Van’s warped tour and Camp Bisco this summer.

EOTO boasts a breadth in styles that have gained them great notoriety circa festi-goers. This recognition is a testament to their originality, putting on performances that guarantee anybody a memorable experience. Their impressive tour schedule has included a plethora of budding festivals from Infrasound in Minnesota to Envision in Costa Rica and recently a series of big shows heading into the summer. It’s nothing new though; they have been blowing away audience’s minds for almost 6 years. This unpredictable show continues to evolve, but what’s next? Only time will tell. Until then look for these guys at whatever festivals you attend.  Written by:  Adam “Grizzly” Epstein

RHCP: Music for the Soul

If you were not in attendance for the phenomenal performance the Red Hot Chili Peppers put on in Omaha, NE Sunday night, then you’re a fool!  After months of anticipation and preparation the show fell anything but short of my expectations!  These guys definitely know how to put on a show, from the high energy they brought on stage to the out of this world LCD screens and visuals, RHCP are by far the best performers I’ve seen thus far in my life!  They played every #1 song they’ve had over the past two decades which was exactly what the crowd wanted!

It seemed as if every time the Red Hot Chili Peppers started a new song the crowd would erupt into pandemonium!  The only drawback to the venue was that it was all assigned seating with no general floor admission for the always awesome MOSH PIT!  When a band like RHCP is playing, you always want to have the crazy MOSH PIT!  If you have never seen RHCP live then you better get your ass to the next concert because your life will not be complete until this is checked off your bucket list!  Check out the RHCP tour dates HERE!  Have a CRUNCHY DAY!
